Current initiative: Syria
Psychosocial needs assessment and program design.
The vision
Majd held a long-term vision: that Syria would one day be free of oppression, that Syrians would attain justice, and that Syrian practitioners would return to lead psychosocial programs in their own country.
With the fall of the former government, the foundation and Majd’s family are working to realize that vision. The initiative begins with a systematic psychosocial needs assessment of the groups Majd served through his institute in Lebanon.
Priority populations
- Survivors of torture and arbitrary detention, including former detainees and their families
- Children exposed to traumatic events related to war and displacement
- Women affected by conflict-related trauma
Method
The initiative follows the model Majd applied in Lebanon. Assessment comes before program design. Qualified Syrian practitioners with backgrounds in psychiatry, psychology and social work are recruited and trained in Majd’s methodology and the HeartMath self-regulation model, and they receive sustained clinical supervision as they begin to serve.
Current phase
The needs assessment is under way. Findings and program launches will be published here.
